Cost to Register a Company, by Country

Germany's EUR 1,051 is the highest official company-registration cost of the six countries here; the UK's GBP 100 is the lowest. Delaware, the standard US choice, charges $110 for an LLC; federal incorporation in Canada is CA$200; Singapore's ACRA charges S$315. Figures are each country's own government registry fee schedule, not a market estimate.

Registering a company is usually the first real cost of starting a business abroad, and it's one of the few costs a government actually publishes as a fixed, citable number — unlike legal or accounting fees, which vary by firm.

This table lists the official registration fee in each country's own currency, from the government registry's own fee schedule. Where a country has no single flat fee (Germany, for example, prices by notary-fee formula), the figure shown is a representative total for a standard company, explained in the methodology section below.

What's included: the government registry's own fee for incorporating a standard private/limited company, exactly as published. For the UK, Australia, the US (Delaware) and Canada (federal) this is a single flat fee. Singapore's figure is two official ACRA line items added together (name reservation + registration). Germany has no flat fee at all — its figure is the sum of three official line items for a standard two-shareholder GmbH with the statutory minimum EUR 25,000 share capital: notary fees under the Gerichts- und Notarkostengesetz (GNotKG), the commercial register entry fee, and the Berlin trade office (Gewerbeamt) registration fee. A different share capital, shareholder count, or German state changes the notary and trade-office components.

What's excluded: legal and tax advice, translation costs, a registered agent or virtual office, business bank account fees, and any share capital itself (share capital isn't a cost — it's money the company holds, though it must be paid in before registration in capital-based jurisdictions like Germany).

The United States has no national registration fee. There's no federal company registry — each of the 50 states runs its own, at its own price. Delaware is used here because it's the overwhelming default choice for US company formation (especially for an LLC), not because it's representative of every state; a company formed in, say, California or New York would pay a different fee to a different registry.

Why Germany looks more expensive: it isn't necessarily — this table compares official registration fees only, in each country's own currency with no FX conversion, so treat a face-value ranking as directional. A full cost comparison would also need ongoing compliance costs (accounting, audit thresholds, annual filings), which vary enormously by country and aren't part of this page.

Which country has the cheapest company registration fee?

Of the countries in this table by face value, the United Kingdom: £100 to incorporate a private limited company online through Companies House, with no minimum share capital requirement. Currencies aren't converted here, so this is a directional comparison, not an exact ranking once exchange rates are applied.

Why does Germany not have a single registration fee?

German notary fees are calculated under the Gerichts- und Notarkostengesetz (GNotKG) as a formula based on the company's share capital ("value"), not a flat government charge. The figure here totals the notary fee, commercial register entry and trade office registration for a standard GmbH, so it moves if the share capital or shareholder structure changes.

Why is the United States just Delaware?

The US has no national company registry — each state runs its own, at its own price. Delaware is used here because it's the standard choice for US company formation, especially LLCs, the same way this site's other hubs use one representative US state or county where there's no national figure to cite. A different state would show a different fee.

Does this include ongoing costs like annual filings?

No — this page covers the one-off registration fee only. Ongoing accounting, audit and annual filing costs vary by country and company size and aren't included here.
