Trademark Registration Fees, by Country
The UAE's AED 6,500 is the most expensive trademark registration in this table — the only country here with three separate mandatory payment stages; New Zealand's NZ$100 is the cheapest. Figures are each country's own currency, at face value, not converted to a common currency.
Last updated 2 November 2026.
Registering a trademark is usually priced in stages that vary by country: some charge one combined fee covering filing through to registration, others split it into an application fee and a separate registration fee paid only once the mark is approved. This table adds up whichever stages are genuinely mandatory in each country, for one class of goods or services, filed directly without a lawyer or filing agent.
Figures are each country's own currency, at face value, not converted to a common currency — see the methodology section for why a face-value ranking isn't a precise cost ranking once exchange rates are applied.

🇳🇿 New ZealandStandard online application per class, excluding GST (one combined fee — no separate registration charge). GST (15%) applies for NZ-resident/GST-registered applicants, bringing the total to NZ$115. Reduced NZ$70 and NZ$50 tiers exist for pre-approved or pre-searched specifications. | NZ$100 | [14] |
What's included: the total government fee that's genuinely mandatory to register a standard trademark in one class, filed directly through the normal domestic route, at standard (non-expedited) processing speed, via the cheapest standard channel the office itself advertises (usually online, using pre-approved goods/services descriptions where that's the standard discount tier).
What's excluded: attorney or trademark-filing-agent fees (market-priced and excluded everywhere on this site), renewal fees (due only years later), opposition-related costs, expedited-service surcharges, and penalty/late-payment fees.
Why most countries show one combined fee. Nine of the 14 countries here (Germany, UK, US, Australia, Singapore, Spain, France, Czech Republic, Slovakia) charge a single fee that covers the whole process through to registration, with no separate charge once the mark is approved. Ireland, Poland and the UAE are genuine multi-stage systems, with a separate fee due only once the application succeeds; Canada's split fee is now historical, applying only to applications filed before 17 June 2019.
One class only. Every figure here prices registration in a single class of goods or services — the cheapest, most comparable unit across all 14 countries. Multi-class applications cost more almost everywhere (typically an extra fee per additional class), and the per-class scaling isn't uniform, so a multi-class total isn't shown.
Limits of this comparison. Figures are each country's own currency, face value, with no FX conversion — treat a 'cheapest/most expensive' ranking as directional, not exact, once exchange rates are applied.
Which country has the most expensive trademark registration here?
The UAE, at AED 6,500 total — split across three mandatory stages (application, publication, and final registration). It's also the only country in this table with a genuinely three-stage fee; most others charge one combined amount.
Which is the cheapest?
New Zealand, at NZ$100 per class (excluding GST). Currencies aren't converted here, so this is a directional comparison, not an exact ranking once exchange rates are applied.
Does this include the cost of a trademark attorney?
No — only the government filing fee is priced here. Attorney and filing-agent fees are market-priced, vary enormously by firm and case complexity, and in some countries (not covered by this scope) are effectively required for a foreign applicant — a real cost on top of every figure in this table.
Why do some countries charge a separate registration fee and others don't?
It depends entirely on how each country's trademark law structures the process. Ireland and Poland charge a fee at filing and a second, smaller fee only once the application is approved and about to be registered — genuinely two separate statutory charges. Most other countries here fold the whole process into one fee paid upfront, with nothing more to pay unless the application is opposed or needs to be renewed years later.
